  "abstract": "Pediatric perioperative outcome assessment can be challenging clinically due to fast changes of pathophysiology of the ‘immature’ organs. However, this area of research is emerging. For example, the Pediatric Perioperative Outcomes Group has made quality of recovery part of the core outcome set for pediatric perioperative care.1 Standardized scales for evaluating postoperative recovery in children provide an objective assessment of physical and psychological status of pediatric patients, supporting evidence-based clinical interventions, and enhance comparability across studies, promoting the standardization of pediatric perioperative clinical research.2 A practical challenge, however, is that the widely used postoperative recovery scales (such as the Quality of Recovery-40 (QoR-40) and the Quality of Recovery-15 (QoR-15)) were originally developed in adult patient populations. Although several studies have been made to validate these scales in children,3 their effectiveness remains limited. Meaningful postoperative recovery assessment in children must reflect developmental stage and include dimensions such as emotional status of patients and their parents or caregivers.4 Previous modifications of adult scale tools have not ‘jumped out’ from the adult-centric framework, leaving a mismatch with pediatric requirements.",
