  "abstract": "Introduction The incidence of vaping is increasing particularly amongst young adults and never-smokers, as addressed in the recent BTS statement. Further, there is mounting evidence from research particularly in children and young adults that vaping can be associated with worse asthma control and asthma exacerbations. We wanted to understand the effects of vaping and vaping exposure on patients with severe asthma.Methods A questionnaire including smoking, active and passive vaping exposure and impact on asthma control was given to severe asthma patients attending a tertiary care clinic. To increase accuracy of patient report this was an anonymised questionnaire although patients could provide their name if they chose to.Results A total of 125 people completed the questionnaire.80 were female and 45 were male. 17/125 had actively vaped, of these 7 (41%) reported worse asthma control due to vaping, 8 (48%) reported vaping had no effect on asthma control and 2 (12%) patients were unsure.61/125 patients had passive vaping exposure, of these 66% (40/125) noted increased asthma symptoms after passive exposure, 12(20%) had no impact on asthma and 9 (14%) patients were not sure. Notably 15/61(25%) patients could associate sustained loss of asthma control (an exacerbation) after an episode of passive vaping exposure.Conclusions There is concerning link between vaping, vaping exposure and asthma control. The majority of severe asthma patients reported worse asthma symptoms after second-hand vape exposure. The effects of vaping on airways disease should guide public health policy to restrict the locations where vaping is permitted and to clearly communicate to the risks of vaping to the public, particularly those with asthma.",
