  "abstract": "Background Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the world. It progresses without symptoms and is typically detected in its advanced stages. Survival rates often depend on staging. Therefore, early detection can lead to more curative surgeries and a better prognosis. Low-dose CT lung cancer screening has been successful, with a proven 20% decrease in mortality.Aims This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the targeted lung health check (TLHC) service in a major English city. Data from 2020–2024 were used to assess diagnosis rates, treatment pathways and outcomes of lung cancer patients identified through the screening programme.Methods Patients eligible for the study were identified using the TLHC’s database. The timelines of their screening, treatments, surgical interventions, and outcomes were collected using the hospital’s CHARTS system. Microsoft Excel was used to analyse the data.Results 240 suspected lung cancer patients (2.94%) were detected from a screened population of 8154 over that period. 195 patients (81.25%) were diagnosed at stage I or II. 109 patients (45.41%) had undergone lung resections, and 73/109 had curative resections as the only required intervention. 99/240 patients (41.25%) had undergone other treatments including neoadjuvant/adjuvant therapy. 54 (22.50%) patients received palliative care.Conclusion 28% of lung cancer diagnoses in the UK were stage I/II in 2019; however, this study has shown an increase in early diagnosis rates with TLHC, as 81.25% of this cohort were diagnosed at stage I/II. For histologically proven cancer, the average surgical resection rate for England is 24.6% (range 14.2%-34.4%). 45.41% of patients who were referred via this TLHC program were able to access lung resections, majority at an earlier stage. In this population, the TLHC programme has proven beneficial in improving the number of asymptomatic patients diagnosed at earlier and more treatable stages.",
