"abstract": "Background Non-invasive ventilation outcome (NIVO) score is a tool that demonstrated strong predictive capability for in-hospital mortality with acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). NIVO score includes consolidations on Chest x-ray, Glasgow Coma Scale <14, Atrial Fibrillation, PH <7.25, Time to academia >12 hrs of admission, and Extended MRC dyspnoea scale. We wanted to study if NIVO score can also be used to predict their length of hospital stay after being admitted with exacerbation of COPD requiring non-invasive ventilation (NIV).Hypothesis With higher the NIVO score, we expect patients to have longer length of hospital stay and higher mortality rate. Methods 102 patients admitted to our hospital with acute exacerbation of COPD treated with non-invasive ventilation (NIV) were studied. NIVO score was calculated retrospectively and correlated with their length of hospital stay and mortality rate for that admission. Results Out of 102 patients, 24 patients died during their hospital admission. Around 87.5% of the patients died scored 3 or more on the ‘Total NIVO score’.Amongst the domains of NIVO criteria, PH <7.25 was analysed as an independent factor related to mortality (70% of the patients died during admission had pH <7.25).The average NIVO score was 3.4 and the average Length of stay was 15.66 days. The correlation of length of stay with NIVO score was calculated using Pearson Correlation Coefficient (R-value of 0.0624 and P-value of 0.533252, no significant correlation).Abstract P160 Figure 1Conclusion This study demonstrated an increased length of hospital stay and higher mortality in patients with NIVO score of 3 or more. We recommend larger sample size to study the association between these variables.",
