  "abstract": "Introduction Silicosis is a preventable pneumoconiosis, and cases continue to be reported in the UK. Silicosis more prevalent in areas with industries where silica exposure may occur, and in communities with higher levels of deprivation. Geographical location of UK silicosis cases and associated levels of deprivation has not been described previously.Methodology The Surveillance for Work and Occupationally-Related Disease (SWORD) scheme allows UK chest physicians to report diseases including silicosis. All silicosis cases reported to SWORD between 1996 and the end of 2024 were reviewed. Pseudonymised demographic data (gender, age, first three digits of postcode), reporter information, and diagnosis were reviewed. Geographical location of cases was examined by postcode and by reporting centre, grouped by UK region. Postcode data were mapped to individual lower layer super output area (LSOA) and corresponding index of multiple deprivation (IMD) by decile.Results In total 318 cases of silicosis were reported to SWORD between 1996 and 2024. Mean age was 59.82 (range 24–99), and most (n=305, 96%) were men. Data on postcode were available for 304 cases and for 303 cases on reporting centre. Based on postcode location, cases of silicosis were found in the Midlands (n=87), North West (n=48), Yorkshire and Humber (n=36), Scotland (n=34), North East (n=28), South West (n=13), London (n=11), South East (n=9), East of England (n=6), and Wales (n=4). Reporting centre locations included the Midlands (n=77, 25%), North West (n=56, 18%), South East (n=51, 17%), Yorkshire and Humber (n=42, 14%), Scotland (n=33, 11%), North East (n=27, 9%), South West (n=11, 4%), Wales (n=5, 2%), and East of England (n=1, 1%). Median IMD decile for cases reported ranged from 4–6 ( figure 1). Numbers of cases of silicosis were higher in lower IMD decile areas including the Midlands, Yorkshire, and the North West.Abstract S110 Figure 1Conclusion Despite being preventable silicosis continues to occur in the UK. Most cases were from low/middle IMD deciles and from regions with higher levels of deprivation suggesting silicosis disproportionately affects people with higher deprivation in the UK. More research should focus on the complex factors increasing the risk of disease, and on improved disease prevention, for these groups.",
