"abstract": "Our book club meeting recently discussed On Being Ill by Virginia Woolf. This short but profound essay, first published in 1926, reflects on the vulnerability that illness brings and the shift in life perspective that it can provoke. Woolf notes how many authors had written extensively about love, anger and grief, but illness had not been considered a worthy theme. Our discussion among neurologists, neurophysiologists, neurosurgeons and medical students focused on the literary and linguistic gaps within illness.",
