  "abstract": "Introduction Microplastics and nanoplastics (MNPs) are increasingly detected in human tissues and have been implicated in chronic inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and vascular disease. Their presence in the cerebrovascular system, particularly in patients undergoing neurovascular interventions, remains underexplored.Aim of Study This pilot study investigates the presence and concentration of MNPs in the blood of neurovascular patients, comparing individuals with ischemic stroke and elective cerebral aneurysm treatment to healthy controls. Additionally, the study assesses whether endovascular procedures contribute to MNP contamination by comparing pre- and post-interventional blood samples.Method We conducted a prospective, observational pilot study including three groups: patients undergoing mechanical thrombectomy for ischemic stroke, patients undergoing elective treatment for intracranial aneurysms, and healthy volunteers. Blood samples were collected immediately before and after the intervention to evaluate MNP levels and potential procedural contamination. Baseline MNP concentrations in patients will be compared to those in healthy controls. MNP concentrations will be quantified using pyrolysis-gas chromatography-mass spectrometry and stable isotope analysis. This study is partially funded by the ESMINT Pilot Research Grant awarded in 2024.Results At this stage, all collected blood samples have been submitted for laboratory analysis. Preliminary results are not yet available but will be ready in time for presentation at the upcoming congress.Conclusion Conclusions will be drawn based on the lab results. This study aims to provide novel insights into MNP exposure in neurovascular patients and assess the role of interventional procedures in potential contamination, thereby contributing to the broader understanding of environmental pollutants in vascular health.Conflict of Interest No",
