"abstract": "This editorial discusses a proposed policy on artificial intelligence (AI) use that we may adopt in the coming months, depending on feedback from our community of authors and reviewers and ongoing developments at our publisher, BMJ Group. We propose that all manuscripts submitted to the Journal of Medical Ethics (JME) and JME Practical Bioethics (JMEPB) must include a dedicated Generative AI Use Declaration section in the manuscript itself, placed before the reference list. This requirement would apply to all submissions, regardless of whether generative AI—as defined in Box 1—was used. Authors would affirm that no generative AI tools were used (Option A); affirm that none were used to substantively influence the content of the manuscript beyond AI-assisted ‘copy editing’i of human-written text (Option B); or affirm that generative AI tools were used, stating which ones were used as well as how and for what purposes they were used (Option C). See Box 2 for details.",
