"abstract": "In 2024, Africa’s population exceeded 1.5 billion, representing approximately 19% of the global population. The continent carries a disproportionate 25% of the global disease burden. However, Africa’s research footprint is limited, making up less than 1% of the global research output. While there has been a notable increase in Africa’s research contribution over the past decade, the continent’s voice in the global leadership discourse, particularly in healthcare management and policy, remains limited. 1 Moreover, many studies focusing on health contexts in Africa are led by researchers from the Global North, with researchers on the African continent appearing as coauthors. This trend is driven by systemic barriers, such as limited access to research funding, inadequate mentorship and career-path opportunities and a dependency on foreign organisations for infrastructure and publication support.2",
