  "abstract": "We might be forgiven for thinking that all is lost for general practice in the UK. Headlines in the media and the professional press continue to declare the decline with both statistics and stories about those receiving, or not receiving care. 1 Falling public satisfaction and general practitioners (GPs) leaving the profession2 compound the problem of timely access and decreasing morale. And yet, the last 5 years have seen the introduction of a wide range of initiatives. These include new roles in general practice, although not integrating effectively,3 primary care networks, a reduction in the number of targets4 and a stocktake5 proposing neighbourhood integration. However, there has not been a compelling vision that sets out the future for the leadership that will be required to deliver this.",
