  "abstract": "Introduction Calcinosis cutis (CC), the pathological deposition of calcium salts in the skin, is a frequent and challenging complication of systemic sclerosis (SSc). Despite its high prevalence, the under-lying pathophysiology remains poorly understood, which complicates the development of ef-fective treatment strategies.Material and Methods We reviewed current literature on the pathogenesis and management of CC in SSc, with a particular focus on emerging evidence linking tissue hypoxia to CC development and novel therapeutic approaches.Results Recent studies suggest that hypoxia may play a key role in the pathogenesis of CC, suggest-ing possible novel pathogenic mechanisms. Furthermore, early clinical reports on sodium thi-osulfate (STS) have demonstrated promising efficacy, stimulating interest in the design of larger, randomized controlled trials to confirm these findings.Conclusions The growing evidence implicating hypoxia in the development of CC and the encouraging therapeutic potential of STS mark important advances in this field. Further research is needed to validate these findings and to establish evidence-based treatment strategies for patients with SSc-associated CC.",
