"abstract": "Introduction Systemic sclerosis is a rare, multisystem autoimmune disease with significant morbidity. Hospitalizations reflect the complexity of the disease and its complications. Therefor, it is important to record and analyze the causes of hospitalization in patients with systemic sclerosis over one year and to assess outcomes.Material and Methods A retrospective study of patients diagnosed with systemic sclerosis who were hospitalized in the rheumatology department of a university hospital over a one-year period. In order to collect the data, a review of a one-year electronic hospital record of the clinic was conducted. Demographic data, cause and length of hospitalization, and outcome were collected. Results Overall, 24 patients with systemic sclerosis who were hospitalized were recorded. The mean age was 59 years, with a female-to-male ratio of approximately 11:1 and a mean disease duration of 7.5 years. The most frequent reason for admission was intravenous therapy with rituximab (62.5%), as well as complications such as digital ulcers (25%, iv iloporost) and anemia (12.5%, iv Fe 2+ ). Infections were recorded in 20.8% of cases, including COVID-19, varicella-zoster virus infection, and soft tissue infections. One hospitalization for osteomyelitis was also noted. The length of stay ranged from 1 to 35 days. All patients were discharged. Conclusions Hospitalizations in systemic sclerosis are mainly due to vascular and infectious complications, with frequent need for intravenous therapy and specialized immunosuppressive treatment. Early recognition and management of these complications may help reduce hospital stay and improve prognosis.",
