"abstract": "Introduction BACKGROUND: Currently, there is equivocal evidence of patients reported outcomes corresponding organ damage in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Evaluating the extent of damage, severity and progression of a disease are crucial aspects. Added to this, an important matter is incorporating the patient’s view into the physician’s global assessment especially in SSc, where organ damage happens early during the progression of the ailment and which is linked to high disease burden, comorbidities and mortality.Material and Methods MaATERIAL This study applied the Systemic Sclerosis Impact of Disease questionnaire (ScleroID), Scleroderma Clinical Trials Consortium Damage Index (SCTC-AI), European Scleroderma Study Group activity index (EScSG-AI) and Medsger’s Severity Scale (MSS) and Scleroto an unselected group of patients from an EUSTAR center.METHODS: The study included 74 randomly-chosen SSc patients. For the assessment of the disease activity, SCTC-AI and EScSG-AI were calculated, while the severity of visceral involvement was quantified by MSS. Statistical analyses were performed by Mann-Whitney U test and Spearman’s correlation analysis. Results RESULTS: The cohort included 87.84% women, 12.16% men, 51.35% with limited, 47.30% with diffuse form, with a mean age of 57.7 years and a mean duration of disease of 10.96±1 years. The averages scores were: 4.218±0.250 for ScleroID, 15.65±1.779 for SCTC-AI, 3.878±0.776 for EScSG-AI and 6.581±0.399 for Medsger’s scale.ScleroID has positively correlated with SCTC-AI (p=0.0004), EScSG-AI (p=0.001) and MSS (r=0.342, p=0.002).There was no significant difference between gender in mean values of ScleroID , SCTC-AI, EScSG-AI and MSS . ScleroID was positively correlate with SCTC-AI (p=0.001), EScSG-AI (p=0.002), and MSS (p=0.005) only in women. In terms of disease duration, this was not correlated with any of the scores.Patients with diffuse systemic sclerosis significantly higher values of SCTC-AI (p=0.015), EScSG-AI (p=0.003) and MSS (p=0,002) than patients with limited form, but not for ScleroID.Conclusions CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrates significant positive correlations between the ScleroID questionnaire and clinical measures of disease activity (SCTC-AI, EScSG-AI) as well as disease severity. This highlights the relevance of patient-reported outcomes in reflecting clinical disease status in SSc, reinforcing the significance of integrating the patient’s perspective in disease evaluation. No correlations were found between disease duration and either clinical or patient-reported outcomes, suggesting an overall high disease burden no matter if disease duration, subtype and visceral involvement.",
