  "abstract": "Camilla Clark currently works as a Clinical Lecturer and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at City St George’s University of London and St George’s University Hospital NHS Trust. She completed a PhD in 2016 in cognitive neuroscience at the Dementia Research Centre, University College London investigating social cognitive impairment in frontotemporal dementia using psychology and neuroimaging.Her current research interests include understanding socio-emotional dysfunction post moderate to severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) and persistent symptoms after mild head injury using psychophysiological techniques. She co- leads the specialist TBI unit at St George’s University Hospital.Mild head/brain injuries are common and result in persistent symptoms in a significant proportion of individuals. However, our limited understanding of the underlying mechanisms generating these symptoms makes it challenging to provide clear explanations to patients and guide treatment.This presentation explores the difficulties with current terminology and highlights the need to reframe our approach to persistent symptoms following mild brain injury. It examines the interaction of pre- and post-injury factors with the injury itself in generating symptom persistence.The discussion addresses the complex interplay of psychiatric, psychological, and physical components in shaping outcomes and emphasizes how appropriate interpretation of investigations can aid diagnostic formulation and patient communication.The need to move beyond the one-dimensional concept of post-concussional syndrome is discussed and the consideration of adopting a biopsychosocialecological model to better understand contributing mechanisms and improve treatment strategies. This requires an appreciation and understanding of the ‘conventional’ neurological, psychiatric and psychological paradigms as persistent symptoms following a mild brain injury commonly spans all three disciplines.",
