  "abstract": "The demand for transplantable solid organs and islet cells far exceeds the supply of available human donors. In response to this persistent shortage, researchers are increasingly exploring the genetic engineering of pigs as a potentially scalable source of both solid organs and islet cells for transplantation. Ethical analysis of xenotransplantation, however, has largely focused on solid organs. By contrast, relatively little recent work has examined the ethics of islet cell xenotransplantation specifically. This gap may reflect the slower pace of progress in islet cell xenotransplantation or an implicit assumption that islet cell and solid organ xenotransplantation are ethically analogous. As xenotransplantation research advances along multiple trajectories, this assumption warrants closer scrutiny. This paper addresses that gap by examining the ethics of islet cell xenotransplantation alongside solid organ xenotransplantation, identifying features unique to islet cell xenotransplantation that may alter the ethical balance. Finally, we examine the implications of these differences for the evaluation and governance of this emerging field.",
