  "abstract": "Background The ongoing war in Ukraine has significantly disrupted food production systems and supply chains, thereby threatening the population’s food security. Very little data exists on the diet and nutritional status of Ukrainians during the current conflict. This study aims to assess dietary behaviours and food insecurity, and perceived changes, among the Ukrainian civilian population.Methods A cross-sectional survey was conducted online from January to August 2025. We assessed the frequency of consumption of main food groups in the last 12 months, including fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, poultry, dairy products, and alcohol, using FFQ. Food insecurity was evaluated using the FAO FIES questionnaire, adapted to reflect the specific temporal context of the war. Finally, we asked about self-reported changes in diet, food quality, quantity, price, and meal frequency since 2022. The survey targeted civilian adults (≥18y) living in Ukraine. Responders who were currently serving in the military, residing abroad, or whose responses were incomplete were excluded from the analysis.Results The final sample included 441 respondents, mainly women (78%). Preliminary results suggested 20% (95%CI: 17-24) of respondents experienced moderate or severe food insecurity since 2022. Over the last 12 months, moderate or severe food insecurity rates have decreased to 7% (95%CI: 6-8). Since the start of the war, 59% of respondents reported changes in their diet, such as changes in daily food amount (52%) and meal frequency (46%); 32% reported a decrease in food quality; and 98% reported an increase in food prices.Conclusion In our sample, participants reported changes in their food consumption and dietary behaviour since the outbreak of the war. While our sample is not representative of the general population, these results support the need for further research to inform interventions in the context of the Ukrainian war and other current and future conflicts.",
