  "abstract": "Background Diabetes mellitus (DM) and myocardial infarction (MI) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the United States. Understanding the trends in mortality rates associated with these conditions is crucial for public health planning and resource allocation.Methods A retrospective observational analysis was conducted. Mortality rates from DM and MI were extracted and analyzed for US adults from 1999 to 2023. Stratification was performed based on age, sex, race/ethnicity and geographic region. Statistical analyses were employed to assess trends over time and identify significant changes.Results The analysis revealed a significant decline in MI-related mortality rates among adults aged 45–64 years, with an average annual decrease of 3 percent from 1999 to 2023. Conversely, DM-related mortality rates showed a steady increase across all age groups, with the most pronounced rise observed in adults aged 65 and above. Regional disparities were evident, with the Midwest exhibiting higher MI-related mortality rates compared to the Northeast.Conclusion The findings highlight significant temporal and demographic variations in mortality rates from DM and MI. While improvements in MI-related mortality may reflect advances in medical interventions and public health initiatives, the increasing trend in DM-related mortality underscores the need for enhanced prevention and management strategies, particularly among older adults and in regions with higher mortality rates.",
