  "abstract": "In their interesting paper, Davidson et al 1 studied the ability of auscultation to identify heart valve disease. They randomly selected participants in the Tromsø 7 study to undergo both cardiac auscultation (digitally recorded and then evaluated offline by trained general practitioners, GPs) and echocardiography, reporting on a final dataset of 2082 subjects. The current study is informative regarding the prevalence of murmurs and their accuracy for detection of valvular heart disease (VHD). It is unusual in including a broad age spectrum (from 40 years) as compared with the elderly populations typical of similar studies.2",
