  "abstract": "Background The study is based within a Scottish Cardiac Rehabilitation (CR) service where an Advanced Practice (AP) role was introduced over two years ago. Existing research on AP within CR is limited with qualitative studies lacking.Aim To explore the Multidisciplinary Teams (MDT) perspectives on the AP roles’ influence on the service, perceived barriers and facilitators to its development, and identify future priorities and potential opportunities. Insights gained will guide future role and service development.Methods The qualitative service evaluation used semi-structured interviews with ten CR MDT members (CR manager, Specialist Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Cardiology Pharmacist and Cardiology Consultant). Data was analysed using Reflexive Thematic Analysis.Findings Four themes were developed from study findings: The AP role enhances patient care; Demonstrates leadership in supporting and developing the team and service; Role potential limited by services challenges; Need to define, promote and justify the role. Findings demonstrated a perceived positive influence of the AP role in enhancing patient care and supporting and developing the team and service. Service challenges including limited resources and large geographical spread were felt to restrict the role potential. The need for the role to be more clearly defined, promoted through wider collaboration and justified with supporting evidence, was suggested.Conclusion Findings suggest although the AP role was perceived to enhance the CR service, wider support was needed for the role to meet its potential. Financial support for prescribing and blood monitoring is required to enhance medical risk management. The need to demonstrate the role’s cost-effectiveness in enhancing patient outcomes and reducing others workload to gain funding was suggested. Protected time for advanced clinical practice, research and wider collaboration was considered paramount. Finally, ongoing facilitated learning and wider collaboration was considered vital in supporting the team and AP within CR including its potential future expansion.",
