  "abstract": "Background Home-based cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has been shown to have a similar effect on quality of life compared with center-based cardiac rehabilitation with regard to enhancing health-related quality of life and clinical outcomes in adherent patients. However, in un-supervised home-based CR, exercise is not supervised, so assessing and correcting the quality of exercise is more challenging.Aim We aimed to apply novel indicators of exercise fidelity (quality of exercise performed in relation to the exercise prescribed) in patients participating in the REACH-HFpEF trial who have been randomised to receive the REACH-HF home-based cardiac rehabilitation intervention.Methods This was a pilot study involving a sub-sample of 10 patients from REACH-HFpEF trial intervention group. The intervention included either walking or chair-based exercise. Participants wore Fitbit Charge 5 (a fitness tracker) for 12 weeks of the intervention and completed an exercise logbook. Outcomes measures represented seven distinct aspects of exercise fidelity (Frequency, Intensity, Time, Type, Self-monitoring of effort, Safety procedures, Progression/Regression).Results Data is undergoing analysis and results will be presented at the BACPR conference.Conclusion We developed a framework of methods for assessing exercise fidelity that might help to assess exercise adherence in future unsupervised home-based exercise programmes. It might also help to develop strategies to improve exercise fidelity in home-based exercise programmes. Future studies are needed to assess exercise fidelity across large sample sizes and explore the association of exercise adherence with outcomes.",
