  "abstract": "Introduction Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANP) began in Ireland in 2002 and integration has expanded exponentially throughout various fields, including cardiology. The subspecialty of cardiac electrophysiology (EP) has been under-represented to-date, but with European Society of Cardiology (ESC) guidelines focusing more on patient-centred integrated care for atrial fibrillation, the role of the EP ANP is likely to expand. Our centre had the first national EP ANP, and since then the role has adopted wider scope with more autonomous clinical activity. We sought to describe the breath of scope of the arrhythmia ANP in our centre as a contribution to a modern tertiary EP service.Methods We retrospectively analysed clinic data and procedure logs for 2 EP ANPs working in our centre to determine their scope and volume over the last 12 months.Results ANPs have autonomous clinical roles within several facets of the EP service, see figure 1. For 2024 these include initial clinical reviews of patients via a specialised outpatient atrial fibrillation (AF) referral clinics (n=503), diagnostic tests/procedures such as bedside transthoracic echocardiography, implantable cardiac monitors (n=62) or pharmacological provocation testing (n=28); therapeutic procedures within a specialised procedure room such as deep sedation direct current cardioversion (n=314), pharmacological cardioversion (n=33), intracardiac-echo manipulation during pulmonary vein isolation and secondary patient follow up. This volume enables reliable waiting lists for AF clinic review (≤4 weeks from referral) or cardioversion (≤6 weeks). The EP ANPs provide a point of contact for patients with symptoms, concerns or questions related to wearable device technology data, with on-line interpretation and management plans.Conclusion With cardiology trainees rotating on a yearly basis, EP ANPs provide a continuity of care and service.
