"abstract": "Introduction At Blackpool Victoria Hospital, local policy mandates that driving advice following cardiac intervention should be documented in line with national guidelines. Our initial audit revealed poor compliance. In response, we implemented an action plan through education sessions and the distribution of posters to increase adherence. This second audit cycle aims to reassess compliance and implement new strategies to further improve adherence.Aims Reassess compliance with local and national guidelines on post-cardiac intervention driving instructions.Develop new strategies to improve adherence to guidance. Methods We retrospectively reviewed electronic records of 40 patients who underwent cardiac interventions at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. This included patients undergoing coronary angiography, angioplasty, pacemaker implantation, pacemaker battery change, catheter ablation and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Discharge records were analysed for documentation of driving advice in accordance with the local and national guidelines. Results and Discussion Of the 40 patients audited, 26 (65%) had correct driving advice documented in their discharge summaries, demonstrating a significant improvement from 12.5% in the previous cycle. This increase suggests that our initial interventions, including teaching sessions and poster distribution, were effective in raising awareness. However, further measures are needed to ensure consistent adherence across all cases.Recommendations To further improve compliance, we propose the following measures:Collaborate with the IT/Systems Applications Department – Advocate for the integration of a mandatory or easily accessible drop-down menu for driving advice in the electronic discharge system, ensuring standardisation.Targeted Education for Rotating Junior Doctors – Implement an online questionnaire and circulate an informational email to rotating junior doctors to reinforce the importance of documenting driving advice.Enhanced Teaching Sessions – Continue structured educational sessions focused on post-cardiac intervention driving restrictions and their documentation.",
