"abstract": "Background The condition known as colorectal cancer is characterized by the uncontrolled development of cells in the colon or rectum. This growth is caused by genetic changes that cause proto-oncogenes to turn into oncogenes and induce the inactivation of tumor suppressor genes. Surgery is the primary means of treatment for colorectal cancer; hence, problems such as surgical site infection are frequently observed during surgical procedures. An increased body mass index has emerged as a factor that is strongly connected with these issues, which is in line with the growing incidence of obesity around the world around the world. Within the population of patients who were receiving elective colorectal cancer surgery, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not there is a correlation between body mass index and the occurrence of postoperative site infection. Methods In this study, an analytical observational research design was utilized, and a retrospective cohort technique was used. The medical records of the research subjects, who were patients with colon cancer who had undergone elective surgery at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta, were combed through in order to acquire the data. Sampling was carried out using a straightforward random sampling method, and the sample size consisted of sixty patients. Results After doing a multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression, the results revealed that the link between body mass index and the occurrence of surgical site infection was statistically significant, with a p-value of 0.019 (p<0.05) and an odds ratio of 4.169 (95% confidence interval: 1.27-13.72). Conclusions When it comes to patients who are receiving elective colorectal cancer surgery, there is a significant correlation between the body mass index and the occurrence of surgical site infection.",
