  "abstract": "Introduction The Duodenal Jejunal Bypass Liner (DJBL) also known as EndoBarrier ® or RESET ® is a novel 60cm impermeable sleeve implanted endoscopically into the first part of the small intestine such that the food passes through it without coming into contact with the small intestine for the first 60 cm. It is left in place for up to one year before being removed endoscopically. It has been shown to cause weight loss and reduction in HbA1c. As weight loss treatments can vary across different ethnic groups, we aimed assess the impact of DJBL according to ethnicity.Methods During 2017, an independent, secure, on-line registry was established under the auspices of the Association of British Clinical Diabetologists (ABCD), for the collection of safety and efficacy data of DJBL treated patients worldwide. We used data in the registry to analyse weight loss and HbA1c outcomes amongst Caucasian, South Asian and Afro-Caribbean ethnicities.Results BMI (kg/m 2) and HbA1c data was available in the registry for all three ethnicities. Mean baseline BMI for Caucasian (N=406), South Asian (N=35) and Afro-Caribbean (N=22) was 41.3±7.5; 36.8±4.4 and 41.1±6.6 respectively. The corresponding mean baseline HbA1c (%) was 8.3±1.7, 9.4±1.7 and 8.9±2.1. All three ethnic groups showed similar and significant weight and HbA1c reduction with DJBL. Mean % BMI reduction for Caucasian, South Asian and Afro-Caribbean were -4.7, -4.4 and -5.3 respectively. Mean HbA1c reduction for Caucasian, South Asian and Afro-Caribbean were 1.3, 2.3, 2.2. Percentage of patients who were super-responders, defined as achieving weight loss >10% and achieving HbA1c <7.5%, were Caucasian 40%, South Asian 57% and Afro-Caribbean 57% (p=0.005)Conclusions All three ethnic groups showed analogous weight loss reductions. HbA1c reduction was greater for South Asian and Afro-Caribbean ethnicities than their Caucasian counterparts. These ethnicities also had more super-responders than did Caucasians following the DJBL intervention. DJBL appears to be an effective strategy to improve diabetes and obesity across all ethnic groups but appears to be even more effective amongst South Asian and Afro-Caribbean ethnicities.",
