  "abstract": "Introduction We evaluated whether a dedicated clinic (Dc) improves health related quality of life (HRQOL) at post-surveillance review for Barrett’s oesophagus (BO) patients.Methods Two-centre pilot randomised controlled trial (RCT) was conducted, allocating patients to Dc, non-dedicated (Nc) clinics, and no-clinic (Xc) arms.HRQOL questionnaires; gastrointestinal symptom rating score (GSRS), hospital anxiety and depression score (HADS), cancer worry scale (CWS), and short form 36 (SF36), were used to assess the short-term effect of follow-up after intervention and analysed by ANOVA.Results 178 patients were screened and 113 (63.8%) randomised to 3 arms (Dc:37, Nc:37, Xc:39): Male: Female=2.65:1, mean age=67.2 ±9.74 years. Current response rate:69 (61.1%).The HADS-A score was significantly lower in the Dc than Xc (score mean difference 4.06 (CI=0.43-7.6); P=0.03). CWS was also significantly reduced in the Dc than Xc arm (mean difference 3.70 (CI=0.26-7.14); P=0.03). No significant difference was observed between Nc vs Dc/Xc. The GSRS, HADS-D and SF36 scores were not significantly altered in three arms compared to each other.Conclusions Dc follow-up patients showed significant short-term benefit by reducing anxiety and cancer worry compared to no clinic at post BO surveillance follow-up.
