  "abstract": "Introduction Non-targeted community FibroScan screening is an approach to improving early detection of liver disease by offering assessments in accessible, non-clinical settings. This method allows individuals without previously known liver conditions to be screened in community venues such as workplaces, sports clubs, and support centres. It aims to raise awareness, identify undiagnosed cases of liver fibrosis, and facilitate timely intervention. Early findings suggest good uptake and engagement, with a small but important proportion of participants showing significant fibrosis. Community-based liver screening may be a valuable tool in public health strategies to reduce the burden of chronic liver disease.Method Participants were invited to attend FibroScan appointments at five different locations. These included a local rugby club, two NHS workplace sites, a large multinational company, and a homeless support centre. The initiative was well received by all participating organisations. At each location, the liver team spent the day providing scans and offering advice to attendees.Results A total of 220 patients were scanned across five centres, none of whom had a previously documented history of liver disease. Significant fibrosis (F3/4) was identified in 11 patients (5%), while 196 patients (89%) showed no signs of fibrosis (F0/1). The remaining 6% had moderate fibrosis (F2).Patients with significant fibrosis were referred for follow-up in secondary care, while those with moderate fibrosis were advised to consult their primary care provider for a comprehensive assessment of risk factors, including metabolic syndrome. All patients received lifestyle advice related to liver health and were provided with information on how to access further resources about their liver condition.Discussion There has been a growing movement to shift the assessment and diagnosis of liver fibrosis into community settings. While numerous pathways and initiatives support early detection of liver disease using FibroScan, these efforts are largely focused on targeted populations—such as individuals with metabolic syndrome or those engaged with substance misuse services. However, our experience with non-targeted FibroScan screening has shown that significant liver disease can be identified in individuals previously considered low risk. Although broad population testing poses challenges—particularly in terms of cost and resource efficiency—early detection offers the potential to halt disease progression and reduce long-term healthcare demand.",
