"abstract": "Parenteral nutrition (PN) remains a cornerstone of supportive care in gastroenterology, particularly in the management of intestinal failure (IF) secondary to short bowel syndrome, gastrointestinal fistulae and malabsorptive syndromes. Although PN is prescribed relatively infrequently compared with other therapies, its safe use requires competence in nutrition assessment, indications and contraindications, refeeding risk, catheter care and metabolic complication management. These PN-related skills sit within broader nutrition support competencies and intersect with variable access to nutrition support teams (NSTs) and home PN services. Training may not consistently cover all of these competencies needed in day-to-day practice.",
