  "abstract": "Objective The aim of this systematic review was to highlight the characteristics of men who have sex with men (MSM) with faeco-oral enteric viruses and estimate the prevalence of enteric viruses in MSM.Method Four bibliographical databases (Medline, Embase, EBSCO, CINAHL-Ultimate) were searched in July 2025; manuscripts written in English that included MSM with a detected enteric virus (enterovirus, norovirus, rotavirus, enteric-adenovirus, sapovirus, astrovirus, enteric-coronavirus) and described at least one demographic, behavioural or co-infection characteristic were included. Citations, abstracts and full text manuscripts were screened by three authors independently; data were extracted and synthesised narratively. A risk of bias assessment was conducted using the Joanna-Briggs toolkit. Estimates of prevalence were calculated using the random effects model. This review was registered: (PROSPERO ID: CRD420251020878).Results Fifteen manuscripts published between 1983 and 2025 including 346 MSM with an enteric virus were included. Demographic (living with HIV, HIV negative using HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis), behavioural (multiple sexual partners, oral sex, oral-anal sex, anal sex, non-condom use) and co-infection ( Treponema pallidum, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Chlamydia trachomatis, herpes simplex virus, Mycoplasma genitalium, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia duodenalis, Campylobacter spp., Salmonella spp., Shigella flexneri, Escherichia coli, Cryptosporidium, Yersinia, other enteric viruses, Neisseria meningitidis, Ureaplasma urealyticum, M. hominis, Endolimax nana, Entamoeba coli) characteristics were observed in MSM with a detected enteric virus. The pooled prevalence of enteric viruses was estimated to be 15% (95% CI 12% to 19%) in symptomatic MSM, and 3% (95% CI 2% to 4%) in asymptomatic MSM.Conclusion These data provide some evidence of sexual transmission of enteric viruses in MSM and important insights for future clinical guidelines, public health control strategies and clinical research.",
