  "abstract": "Objective Robust processes to ensure that people in prison are tested for hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection are a requirement of the global viral hepatitis elimination plans. We observed in the East Midlands that male remand prisons have a lower test uptake than the establishments housing people who are sentenced. In this study, we sought to determine the intervention implementation strategies undertaken to enable anti-HCV testing in category B prisons.Methods An adapted Expert Recommendations for Implementing Change (ERIC) survey tool (comprising suggested interventions in eight ‘clusters’, namely: infrastructure, financial, interactive assistance, tailored care, staff education, stakeholder interrelationships, evaluation and prisoner engagement) was sent to the 30 category B remand prison healthcare services in England. In addition, we obtained detailed admission and test uptake data from three sites.Results Our data show that of the possible 76 suggested interventions in the ERIC tool, the 12 prisons who responded implemented between 8 and 63. The majority of the interventions were grouped in the staff education, evaluation and prisoner engagement clusters. Detailed data were available for three prisons and their rates of HCV testing did not correlate with the number of interventions implemented.Conclusion Current interventions implemented that focus on staff and prisoner education and engagement alone may not be sufficient to increase and maintain anti-HCV testing rates in remand prisons. The deployment of additional and context-specific intervention implementation strategies is required.",
