"abstract": "It is a pleasure that the journal is publishing this British Association of Perinatal Medicine framework for practice for routine newborn pulse oximetry screening authored by Vix Monnelly and colleagues. The guidance has been developed by an expert group in partnership with Bliss charity, the Royal College of Midwives (RCM), the British Congenital Cardiac Association (BCCA), the Congenital Cardiac Nurses Association (CCNA), the Neonatal Transport Group (NTG), Tiny Tickers charity and Little Hearts Matter charity. It has been endorsed by Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT), Paediatricians with Expertise in Cardiology Specialist Interest Group (PECSIG), the Children’s Heart Federation charity (CHF), the Children’s Heart Beat Trust charity and Young at Heart charity. It is based on the most up to date evidence, and has proven very successful in enabling routine oximetry screening in every birth setting to be rolled out in nearly all neonatal services across the whole UK. The guidance is straightforward and advises on simple care pathways so that it is likely to be useful in other countries where oximetry screening is still being rolled out. It minimises unnecessary investigations, prevents unnecessary parent-baby separation and provides guidance for parents. See page F436",
