  "abstract": "In recent years, an increasing number of healthcare responsibilities have been delegated to general practice, leading to a marked rise in the number of patient consultations handled by general practitioners (GPs). This shift places significant demands on GPs, not only in terms of workload but also in navigating complex clinical and ethical considerations.At the same time, broader societal trends—such as the growing prevalence of private health insurance in the global north countries—have contributed to a more consumer-oriented approach to healthcare. Patients increasingly perceive themselves as healthcare consumers with greater expectations for access, testing, and diagnosis. This change in patient behaviour can, intentionally or not, create pressure on GPs to meet these expectations, sometimes at the expense of clinical appropriateness.Moreover, political agendas and health system incentives may further compound this pressure, influencing practice patterns and potentially contributing to overdiagnosis, reinforces health inequalities, and places further strain on already stretched healthcare resources.This interactive workshop will explore the phenomenon of overdiagnosis in general practice through a series of illustrative cases. We will examine how overdiagnosis can intersect with various aspects of the GP’s role, including acting as a gatekeeper for referrals and diagnostic testing, establishing medical diagnoses, issuing sick leave certifications, and the practice of defensive medicine.By encouraging active participation and discussion, the workshop aims to stimulate critical reflection among attendees on the complex drivers of overdiagnosis in general practice, everyday clinical work. Participants will be invited to share their own experiences and perspectives, contributing to a deeper understanding of how overdiagnosis can be identified, addressed and mitigated.",
