  "abstract": "Background No Barriers Here (https://www.nobarriershere.org/) is an arts-based approach to advance care planning (ACP). Led by St Catherine’s Hospice in partnership with Lancashire County Council (LCC) and South Ribble Borough Council, we focused on improving advance care planning conversations with veterans – a group that can face challenges and barriers to discussing end-of-life wishes (Petrova, Caddick, Almond. Br J Gen Pract. 2021;71(703):86-89).Aim To train two hospice staff to be No Barriers Here facilitators, identify a community group likely to face barriers in end-of-life discussions, and pilot the No Barriers Here approach to increase confidence in having such conversations.Method LCC-funded, two hospice staff did No Barriers Here facilitator training at Mary Stevens Hospice. South Ribble Borough Council, with its veterans’ support connection, was chosen as a delivery partner; the lead officer also being a veteran. Recruitment was through a veterans’ café, engaging six participants (four men, two women) from varied military backgrounds. A series of three workshops were held in a community venue (100% attendance), followed by a hospice visit and myth-busting tour. Confidence in ACP discussions was assessed through brief phone interviews, before and after the first and final workshops.Results Participants felt heard, valued, and better able to communicate their future care wishes and normalise such conversations with loved ones. The creative methods used encouraged trust, reflection, and open dialogue, enabling veterans to articulate complex emotions. Four of six reported increased confidence in ACP. The group described a sense of close connection, referring to themselves as a ‘ little family.’Conclusion This pilot suggests that creative, community-based models like No Barriers Here can enhance ACP conversations and promote person-centred care. A shared, safe space played a vital role in fostering trust and engagement. The approach shows strong potential for adaptation with other community groups through hospice collaboration.",
