"abstract": "Background People diagnosed with a life-limiting illness have told us that they consider the medical response to their diagnosis feels like ‘preparing to die from’ rather then ‘living with’. Many Living Well programs can be overly subscriptive with a one size fits all approach. Funded by the Big Lottery, we piloted a Living Well program that had a planned structure based on responding to the main sensory systems and a consultation to ensure that each group could include bespoke sessions to meet their shared need.Aims To create and deliver bespoke Living Well programs that relate to the main human senses to help people diagnosed with a life-limiting illness to connect, understand and cope. Methods People were invited to attend one day a week for four weeks. Groups were closed and capped at eight attendees. Content was planned, including introduction, a form of gentle exercise, welfare benefits, nutrition, lunch, mindfulness/relaxation and initial group consultation to include issues specific to each group, e.g. talking to younger family members, communication skills, advance planning, aromatherapy. A key question was asked at each session, e.g. ‘what does living well mean to you’?Results Feedback from attendees was excellent, including:‘An interesting, engaging and learning experience that would be difficult to find elsewhere.’‘An inspired concept, because it’s structure was so completely different to any similar type of program that I’ve attended’‘Truly holistic approach that everyone could relate to and benefit from.’‘ the holistic experience of living well and thinking positively and live rather than be shrouded in negativity and doom and gloom’.Conclusion Attendees found the holistic experience and narrative of the sessions inspiring and they found it meaningful to meet others in a similar situation and engage in activities that connected with their senses.",
