  "abstract": "Background Accessibility to and stigma about palliative care services can result in missed opportunity to provide both specialist symptom control and early palliative care. Patients are used to attending frequent hospital appointments whether for specialist appointments, bloods or scans, when these stop the next step is often a home visit from a hospice nurse and this can be a major unwanted life change.Aim To enable earlier access and breakdown barriers to accepting palliative care by providing a more acceptable and ‘normal’ clinic attendance for anyone with a life-limiting illness.Method The community palliative care team acknowledged that not all patients are housebound and arranging home visits can result in significant waiting time for patients who may be ambulant but symptomatic (Scheffey, Kestenbaum, Wachterman, et al. J Pain Symptom Manage. 2014;48(4):532-9). Two clinics were opened (as it was recognised that a hospice clinic may insight fear) onsite and in a satellite clinic in a community hospital. Referral criteria and material were adjusted to present a positive change in care that ‘normalises’ the change in care provision.Results The clinics remain in the early phase with attendance expected to rise as we circulate the information. Those that have attended so far have been appropriate and we have received good feedback. Further data will be available for the presentation.Conclusion The palliative care outpatient clinics allow ambulatory patients with terminal illness to access palliative care on their terms. It enables the hospice team to meet people earlier in their disease trajectory and in collaboration and understanding of our system partners we see the right person at the right time in the right place. Whilst early findings are positive there will be substantial qualitative and quantitative data collected to evidence the impact of our outpatient clinics. With numerical data collected from source and quantitative data from ‘iWantGreatCare’ and case studies.",
