  "abstract": "Background In 2012 Sophie was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Sophie underwent surgery, chemo and radiotherapy, with strength and determination. During this time Sophie’s family recognised there were limited options for healthcare and support locally and set about finding ways to improve end-of-life and bereavement care for children and their families.Aim To develop a support provision for children and their families with life-limiting illness by developing a unique partnership between ‘KissyPuppy’ (https://kissypuppy.co.uk/) and Mountbatten hospice.Method Sophie’s first project was to provide a room in which children can be cared for at the end-of-life and a place where families can spend time after their child’s death to say goodbye. The children’s room was opened in November 2013 just before Sophie died. The partnership then went on to develop a playground, parties and events for children living with a life-limiting condition and supporting the children’s bereavement service.Results Over the last 10 years the partnership has grown. The children’s room has been used by eight families providing a space for time and saying goodbye in their own personalised ways that other services are unable to offer. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The bereavement service is the only lifespan bereavement service on the island. Currently, 25% of all bereavement referrals are for children and their families. Group support is now additionally available for bereaved teens and children. Groups use art and music to explore and express grief and loss and provides opportunity to gain peer support. Alongside, the service now delivers training in child bereavement helping teachers and schools in supporting bereaved children.Conclusion The partnership has offered vital funding and services to children and their families on the island. We will continue to work together for years to come and build on Sophie’s legacy.",
