  "abstract": "Background Multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings have long been considered best practice in specialist palliative care, providing a forum for collaborative decision making with agreed outcomes based on current best practice. NHS England’s recommendation of a more streamlined approach no longer mandating us to discuss all cases provided the opportunity to review our MDT, with the aim of improving the quality of discussions.Last year’s evaluation highlighted that increasingly complex patients were dominating the agenda and that contributions were primarily limited to senior team members. Recognising that effective symptom management often has multiple valid approaches, we identified that we would benefit from discussing less complex cases within the context of a wider MDT with their different perspectives. Ten discussion topics were selected to guide a broader case selection, aiming to encourage more inclusive discussions, without limiting case eligibility.Methods An anonymous online questionnaire and optional verbal interviews were used to evaluate this new approach. Findings were further explored during an in-person evaluation session facilitated by the hospice’s Education & Development Manager.Results 26 team members responded to the questionnaire and 24 people attended the evaluation session. Thematic analysis showed high levels of satisfaction with nearly 70% rating the improvement in the past 12 months at 8 and above out of ten. Every member interviewed commented on the huge benefits of the recent developments and changes to the current MDT. The evaluation session highlighted that to provide a holistic approach it is vital to recognise the importance of the full range of roles represented at the MDT.Conclusions The introduction of the discussion topics was evaluated well and something the team wants to continue, however, the topics need to be updated to ensure they reflect the full range of roles represented at the MDT, recognising their value and individual perspectives.",
