  "abstract": "The evidence underpinning decision-making and outcomes for hospice inpatients who are transferred to an acute hospital comprises service evaluations, and there is a time lag since these have been published. 1–3 As people are living longer with progressive, life-limiting illnesses and engaging with specialist palliative care services earlier in the disease trajectory, it is increasingly appropriate to seek reversibility during episodes of deterioration. The potential benefits of active medical treatments should be considered, and bidirectional transitions between hospice and the acute hospital may be appropriate.",
