"abstract": "Introduction Obesity and sedentary lifestyle are strong risk factors for obstructive sleep apnoea. Drawing parallels with pulmonary rehabilitation in COPD, this study explores whether a structured, multidisciplinary exercise programme (SleepEx) can improve functional and metabolic outcomes in patients with OSA. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of a 3-month structured exercise programme on weight and functional capacity in patients with OSA.Methods Patients with a confirmed diagnosis of OSA under the care of the local sleep service were recruited to a 12-week SleepEx programme. Assessments were conducted pre- and post-intervention, including weight and Incremental Shuttle Walk Test (ISWT) distance. Data were collected from two programme cycles. Statistical significance was determined using paired analyses (p < 0.05).Results Out of 37 enrolled participants, complete outcome data were available for a subset (16 patients), due to programme non-completion or incomplete documentation. Among those with full data, ISWT distance improved significantly by an average of 179.4 metres (SD 164 m, p < 0.05), and weight reduced by a mean of 2.7 kg (SD 4.9 kg, p < 0.05).Discussion The SleepEx programme demonstrated statistically significant improvements in both weight and functional capacity in patients with OSA. Despite logistical and data collection challenges and small sample size, findings suggest meaningful clinical benefits. Future iterations may benefit from dedicated administrative support to enhance data completeness and participant retention. Continued refinement and larger cohort studies are warranted to further validate outcomes.",
