  "abstract": "Introduction Children may require home oxygen due to respiratory conditions such as chronic lung disease (CLD) arising from prematurity (Tyler, M et al 2009). Periodic sleep studies are required to measure oxygen saturation (SpO2) averages, instability, and time spent <90% (Fitzgerald et al 2008). Upon clinical improvement, home oxygen can be gradually weaned and discontinued. Traditionally, patients within the East of England on a weaning protocol would be issued with an oximeter for overnight use. This process was labour intensive and resource-heavy due to logistical factors. The aim was to establish whether using the App-based oximetry platform: Masimo Safety NET (MSN) is a viable option for monitoring patients weaning home oxygen therapy.Methodology This quality improvement project was performed at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Thirteen patients (5 Males / 8 Females) recruited were all started on home oxygen within the first year of life. The average age from birth to starting home oxygen was: 7.9 months. Patients were given Masimo Radius PPG chips and compatible SpO2 sensors, which enabled the devices to be linked to the MSN mobile application.Results 10/13 patients had weaning plans in place, with an average number of 2.2 MSN oximetry studies performed per patient. At the time of analysis, 8/13 patients had stopped home oxygen therapy, following successful weaning using MSN. The average duration from home oxygen therapy commencement to agreed removal of therapy was 10.7 mo. 3/13 patients were deemed unsuitable for a weaning programme due to an ongoing oxygen requirement reported from the MSN SpO2 data.Discussion MSN can be successfully used as an aid for safe weaning of patients on home oxygen therapy remotely, and identify when patients are unsuitable to commence a weaning protocol. Further research should look at standardisation of overnight oximetry interpretation in this patient cohort.",
