  "abstract": "Background In our journey to become a research hospital, delivering joined up personalised care, the Clinical Research Facility (CRF) and its satellite teams have been delivering clinical trials, however, capacity is limited as these are often not undertaken in normal clinical areas. This has reduced the ability of local teams to support the patients that they know best and drive new research.Methods To aim at increasing research capacity, a teaching session for Newly Qualified Nurses (NQNs) was developed, covering the basic principles of research delivery. This included Good Clinical Practice, data accuracy, different research roles, and identifying potential and current participants. This session was delivered to 2 groups of NQNs, totalling 40. Online platforms and questionnaires were used pre and post the session to gauge prior knowledge, learner progress, and what future interventions could aid them with research delivery. This was completed as part of the Chief Nurse Fellow programme.Results A word cloud asking, ‘what is clinical research?’ generated answers including ‘trials’ (5), ‘studies’ (5), ‘evidence-based practice’ (2) and ‘clinical trials’ (2). In the post-teaching questionnaire 95% of participants said they could describe clinical research either ‘well’ or ‘very well’. 100% stated they were ‘confident’ or ‘very confident’ with supporting research delivery in their area. When asked to give 2 examples of how they could support clinical research, the most common themes were ‘record accurate data’ (26%), ‘follow research protocols’ (13%) and ‘regular monitoring’ (8%). When asked what further support could allow them to be part of clinical research 41% of answers included knowledge of local studies.Conclusion To conclude, the responses post teaching appeared to demonstrate an increase in the understanding of NQNs in how they can support research delivery. There is a need to embed this teaching for future cohorts to ensure the success the project.",
