  "abstract": "The HCPC Principles for Preceptorship (2023) and NHSE AHP Preceptorship standards (2024) define AHP Preceptorship as a structured period of support and development at key moments of career transition. In 2022 we launched a 12-month band 6 development programme at GOSH focused around the four pillars of practice. This is offered to all band 6s, (including those new to role, to GOSH or band 6s looking to progress towards band 7).Programme content was co-developed by staff from bands 5-8 and subject matter experts. Measuring the impact of the programme was important to demonstrate its value. The primary outcome measure was changes in self-reported confidence and competence pre and post course.We completed a 2-year data cut after four cohorts had finished the allied health development programme (n=35). All attendees were required to complete a pre- and post-course evaluation form to self-report their confidence and competence on 5-point Likert scale, from not very confident to extremely confident. Data was collated and descriptive and chi-squared statistical analysis were used.The pre-course confidence range of those scoring somewhat, very and extremely confident was 21-97% (average 72%), and post course increased to a range of 93-100% (Average 99%). For competence this increased from 37-100% (average 75%) to 94-100% (average 98%).Statistical analysis shows that 80% of the 25 topics taught showed a statistically significant result for changes in confidence and 64% for competence (p=<0.05).Results Show that introducing a development programme for band 6s significantly improves confidence and competence in most topics. We recommend similar preceptorship/development programmes are offered to band 6s in other organisations.This is a small-scale study, and we aim to add to the numbers and look at longer term outcomes of this programme, including qualitative analysis and retention.",
