  "abstract": "Children and young people are acutely aware of the effects of the climate crisis on their health and well-being. 1 2 In a survey of 10 000 adolescents internationally, over 50% reported feeling sad, anxious, angry, powerless, helpless and/or guilty about the climate crisis, and more than 45% reported feelings about climate change negatively impacting their lives daily.1 A recent study noted a 15-year-old saying, ‘Older people will die of old age, I’ll die of climate change’.3 Some children and adolescents are actively advocating for climate action, including through protests.3 Residing in perilous environments ravaged by flooding, drought or poor air quality can jeopardise children’s ability to enjoy and exercise their right to an adequate standard of living. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) stipulates that States must provide environmental conditions that allow children to thrive and grow.4 As an international human rights treaty, these rights are invariable and apply to all children regardless of background or circumstance. In the case of the climate crisis, relevant rights include Article 4 (government responsibilities to ensure children’s health), Article 6 (life, survival and development) and Article 27 (adequate standard of living).",
