  "abstract": "Purpose Since it can be challenging to discriminate between true guttae and artefacts imposing as guttae during eye bank evaluation, we evaluated the morphologic appearance of ‘known guttae’ in post-mortem DMEK eyes operated on for Fuchs endothelial dystrophy (FED).Methods A total of 22 post-mortem DMEK eyes from 16 FED patients (of which ten had unilateral DMEK surgery) were examined using inverted light microscopy. Pathologic peripheral host tissue (outside the descemetorhexis) was compared to adjacent central graft tissue in the same cornea for the morphology and location of guttae, using inverted light microscopy.Results Guttae were seen as small, greenish, clustered bumps with some variation in size and color in peripheral host rims. None of the images of the peripheral host rims showed clear visibility of endothelial cells in both central graft and peripheral host tissue.Conclusion ‘Known guttae’ in post-mortem FED eyes that had DMEK performed, showed a distinctive morphology and distribution in peripheral host tissue left in-situ, as compared to the grafted tissue centrally.",
