  "abstract": "Advance care planning (ACP) allows individuals to document healthcare preferences, values and wishes and increases the likelihood that these are respected if they can no longer communicate. 1 ACP discussions can be time-consuming, resource-intensive and stressful, as critical decisions must be made within a limited number of sessions.2–4 While workbooks help patients reflect on key questions in advance, they lack the interactivity of live conversations.5 Current artificial intelligence (AI) applications in ACP primarily focus on identifying patients who may benefit from ACP6–8 or in promoting interest in ACP participation,9 but are rarely used in facilitating the conversations themselves. In other areas of healthcare, AI chatbots have been used for mental health support,10 chronic disease management11 and patient education,12 highlighting potential parallels for ACP facilitation.",
