"abstract": "McNally discusses the childcare challenges faced by doctors who are parents.1 My partner and I have two children, and we are both training in operating specialties. The early starts and late finishes are a challenge to our childcare arrangements, as well as our ability to be present as parents (which for us is paramount). So far, the advice from our respective colleges to working parents has been merely to go less than full time. This is not pragmatic when taking a pay cut compounds affordability of wraparound care and nanny and nursery fees.",
