  "abstract": "Last month the BMA published the results of a freedom of information request it had sent to 202 UK hospital trusts about the use of advanced practitioners (APs) on medical rotas to cover slots not filled by doctors.12 Of the trusts that responded (around half), 43 said that they had deployed APs on their medical rotas, 45 said no, and a further 16 trusts answered “not applicable” or “unclear.” When asked whether APs were permitted to cover doctors' rota gaps, 41 trusts replied yes, 44 no, and 17 “not applicable” or “unclear.”",
