  "abstract": "Aziz Rahman was born in 1935 in the village of Paschim Belpukur, in the north of what is now Bangladesh. After excelling at school, he was one of the small number of people selected for entry to the only medical school in the country at Dhaka. Very active in student politics, he also joined teams who travelled to villages vaccinating people against smallpox. He qualified in 1959 and then practised in Dhaka for a few years before moving to the UK with his wife in 1963.",
