  "abstract": "Jenny was born in Birmingham to Irish parents, Elizabeth and David (“Pard”) Calderwood. Her father practised medicine under bombardment in his house-cum-surgery in Great Barr. She was educated at the Abbey School, Malvern Wells, and went on to study medicine at the University of St Andrews. After qualification and house jobs in Dundee Royal Infirmary she worked and specialised as an ophthalmologist and then as a GP in Ealing, west London; Stockport; and Hong Kong, where she worked at the British Military Hospital, followed by private practice in Central.",
