  "abstract": "In 2020 Aggrey Burke was awarded the president’s medal by the Royal College of Psychiatrists; then in 2023 the college launched a fellowship in his name, a two year programme for black medical students. Burke, the first black consultant psychiatrist in the UK, was delighted to receive this recognition, but some felt it came far too late for a man who had spent his life combating racism and had been largely overlooked by the establishment. In a tribute to Burke, cultural historian Patrick Vernon described the honours as “long overdue.”1",
