  "abstract": "The UK government’s recent announcement of emergency legislation designed to prioritise UK medical graduates and doctors with substantial NHS experience was a welcome one for many medical students and resident doctors across the country.1 The current cohort of medical students and foundation doctors came of age in this profession during a time of multiple crises: the covid-19 pandemic, the NHS workforce crisis, and years of disputes around pay and pensions. In many ways, this is the first good news for this group in quite some time.",
